Awake – our diplomatic manifesto relies on negotiation

We are a non-partisan, politically neutral organization that serves only human rights and international understanding, yet we also love our country and want to help move it forward.

Awake – our diplomatic manifesto relies on negotiation

Justice cannot automatically be on the side of the loudest. In our wonderful country, we must preserve the democracy and reforms that are endangered every day. Here we see domestic effects of the global financial and economic crisis: municipalities are increasingly turning into begging clubs and can no longer solve regional problems. Schools have to be neglected. Poor education and old-age poverty are becoming standard. Germany could fall behind in the competition for locations. Quo vadis, Germany? In areas where politics seems to be a science, we see it as our duty to ask about the living organisms. We are a country full of good people who can bring out the best in themselves and in the whole. That is what we work on and what we look forward to, counteracting domestic reform gridlock with momentum in the development of the European middle class and network. We coordinate our activities with the EU Parliament.

In foreign policy it is regrettable that our German foreign policy recently wanted to support the Islamist Morsi in Egypt as democratically legitimate. We consider Islamization to be undemocratic and condemn this support as a regression on the path to respecting human rights. It should be mentioned again that today in Egypt 90% of girls are circumcised. Forty percent die from this bestial bodily harm, which stands as just one example. Acceptance of this cultural aspect has led to the unbearable situation that there are victims every day but no perpetrators. We do not tire of asking questions about an infamous mass crime. The countries may be far away, but the issue is very close and indifference is not an option for us. Parents must understand the value of girls. They are not objects; they are a protected potential full of autonomy. Education can serve here as a motivating source of change and a healing power of self-control, and we seek to find and spread it. The removal of Morsi prevented the law against circumcision from being repealed again. Women’s rights and their enforcement are part of our singular duty. Encompassing this, accompanying the focal points of foreign policy internationally forms a central area of responsibility for our organization.

Making it easier for supposed opponents to exit their previous patterns of action, replacing the destructive in their deeds because we do not want it in the world, that is our path of diplomacy. Measures of de-escalation, for human rights, development aid, and health are our fields of responsibility for the UN.

We and numerous renowned experts of public life demonstrate that we need change and must get to work. That is what we stand for.
