Under this motto, a congress of DMW Diplomats International took place on June 9, 2023, at the Florya Elite Hotel in Istanbul, which garnered significant attention. The event, organized by our organization, not only contributes to the development of relations between Turkey and the EU but also plays a vital role in enhancing relations in economic, social, cultural, and political fields, with a focus on emphasizing the connection with Europe. Turkey is seeking ways to bring about improvements in Europe.
Numerous speakers provided insights into the measures to achieve this—among them DMW Diplomats International Vice President Halil Sert, who played a key role in the organizational preparations.
At the economic summit, attended by high-ranking representatives from diplomacy and business from Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Turkey, international projects were evaluated under the motto “maximum cooperation under the umbrella of effective diplomacy.”
The opening speech was delivered by President Prof. Günther Meinel, who emphasized that although Turkey is not yet an official member of the European Union, it remains an important trade and diplomacy partner. He further noted that the Turkish economy is poised to overcome its crisis through better financial policies. He also mentioned that DMW has supported Turkey's accession to the European Union for 24 years, vocally expressing in the EU Parliament and the EU Commission why the country should be an important part of Europe. Prof. Meinel expressed his belief that some entrenched issues between Turkey and the EU regarding EU membership could be overcome and noted that both the new Turkish government and the European side have good intentions toward finding a solution.
The evening was hosted by the well-known moderator Jennifer Sebnem-Schäfer, with musical accompaniment provided by singer Miriam Geiger. Following the program, a gala dinner was held. During and after the meal, participants exchanged views on diplomatic topics and potential joint activities.
